At the end of the day, the Balleroy forest feels suspended in time. That is where Jacques and Isabelle chose to pose — or rather, not to pose.
A couple session in the forest, in the Calvados, is the opposite of stiff photographs. No smile on command, no set pose: we walk, we talk, and the light between the trees does the rest.
Jacques and Isabelle share a quiet closeness that makes everything easy. All I had to do was stand in the right place, at the right moment, and let things come.
Portraits out in nature
The forest offers soft light, vertical lines, silence. For a couple or portrait session, it is a setting that calms people down — the camera is quickly forgotten, and that is exactly what I am after.
I photograph couple and portrait sessions all over Normandy — forest, beach, bocage countryside, or at home. Always in natural light, for simple, honest images.
Thank you to Jacques and Isabelle for this moment in the forest.
