An engagement session is a rehearsal with nothing at stake: you learn to be photographed before the big day. And Saint-Malo in May, under a sky that can't make up its mind, is a setting of the first order.
This engagement session in Saint-Malo took place in May, a few months before the wedding. It is a session I recommend to all my couples: an hour or two of photographed strolling, so that you arrive at your wedding on familiar ground. No more fear of the camera — you have already got used to each other.
The weather was properly Breton: heavy skies, brief sunny spells, wet cobblestones. Exactly what you want — the best light has to be earned.
The granite lanes, walking
We started in the lanes: walking, talking, holding hands — while I framed through whatever the town offered: a railing, a staircase, a bank of leaves. I look for images that don't look posed, because they aren't.
Semper Fidelis, a motto that fits
You couldn't dream of a better mural for an engagement session: the Saint-Malo flag, a "+", a heart, and the town's motto — Semper Fidelis, "always faithful". It was right on our way; the nod was too good to miss.
Low tide, last act
We finished by the sea, on the rocks uncovered by the tide. The sky clouded over for good, the rock pools turned into mirrors — and the last two images of the session were silhouettes, with two seagulls watching from the parapet.
Thank you to this couple for their trust — see you at the wedding, on familiar ground.
